President Donald Trump announced one-time $90 payments for Medicare beneficiaries on Friday and renewed a proposal to send $5,000 to adult U.S. citizens if Republicans retain control of Congress in the midterm elections.
Stat News said the Medicare payments would go to more than 20 million seniors, while CNBC put the number at 20.8 million beneficiaries. In a Truth Social video posted Saturday, Trump said the $5,000 payments would follow Republican victories in the House and Senate. CNBC reported he did not provide details about authorization or funding for that proposal.
Stat News reported that Trump last month said about 1 million people would receive $500 rebates for Affordable Care Act premiums. It also said the $5,000 proposal would require congressional approval.
