Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico was at his Austin home from Oct. 1 through Oct. 8, according to time-stamped security footage cited by The New York Times, contradicting an online claim that he was receiving treatment at an Ohio mental health facility.
The claim circulated after Talarico was absent from the campaign trail for nine days. His campaign said he had the flu and was at home, while conservative and far-right figures promoted the Ohio allegation, according to the Washington Sun. Talarico later appeared at the Austin City Limits music festival on Friday and was photographed with singer Kacey Musgraves the next day. Talarico is the Democratic Senate nominee in Texas and is running against Republican Ken Paxton.
