Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana said Sunday that he is considering a 2028 presidential campaign, while saying his current plan is to seek reelection to the Senate. He made the comments on NBC News' "Meet the Press" and said he had not made a decision.
Kennedy said he could pursue the presidency if he concludes he cannot remain effective in the Senate. He also said he would consider running if Republican candidates he viewed unfavorably entered the race and he believed he could do a better job. No candidate has formally announced a 2028 presidential campaign, according to NBC News. Kennedy is up for reelection in 2028, the New York Post and Washington Sun reported.
