The U.S. Air Force moved all of its bombers from RAF Fairford in England back to their home stations in the United States on Sunday, following security concerns and an investigation into an alleged planned attack near the base.
The Hill, the New York Post and The New York Times reported that 12 B-1 bombers were withdrawn. A U.S. official told CNN the move followed an unspecified new threat, describing it as a “real world incident.” British authorities had arrested five British nationals on suspicion of planning an attack near the air base, according to the Washington Examiner and New York Post. The Guardian reported the withdrawal followed an investigation into an alleged planned terror attack at the base. Pentagon officials did not provide details on the reason for the redeployment.
