Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Wednesday that the United Kingdom had strong indications Iran played a part in an alleged security incident near RAF Fairford, a base used by the United States. The investigation remains ongoing, and Tehran denied the allegation, Al Jazeera reported.

Five British men in their 20s were arrested near the Gloucestershire base on Sunday on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences, according to Al Jazeera. They were released on bail the following day. Police did not find explosives in vans near the base, the Washington Post reported, adding uncertainty to the suspected plot.

Burnham told the BBC that the case was complex and serious. Police continue to investigate the incident.
