Mayor Mamdani Discusses Affordable Housing Project with President Trump

Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with President Trump at Grace Mansion on Monday to discuss an affordable housing project in Queens, specifically the Sunnyside Yards redevelopment. Mamdani, who has been advocating for the project, noted that it has faced significant delays over the years but was revived earlier this year. Trump acknowledged the location's potential, recalling his past ownership of a building in Sunnyside. He stated, "I owned a building in Sunnyside. It was a great building I know very well. So when they mentioned Sunnyside Yard, they’ve been talking about developing that for 50 years. So maybe they have a shot at doing it." Mamdani emphasized the need for federal support to navigate regulatory and financing challenges, stating, "We’ve spoken about Sunnyside Yard... we’ve agreed to set up a new level of that conversation between our housing and operations team at City Hall and the White House team, because what we’re speaking about is 12,000 homes, 30,000 jobs. We have significant way to go but these meetings do truly assist in that path."
