A mock website, gopdallas2026.com, which redirects users to the Epstein Files, became the top search result on Google for the Republican Party’s upcoming midterm convention in Dallas, Texas. The site, which appeared on Friday, claimed to offer details about the 2026 Republican National Committee (RNC) Midterm Convention but instead directed users to the Department of Justice’s website containing information about Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. The Republican Party quickly condemned the website on social media, directing users to the official site, GOPConvention.com, and labeling reports about the prank site as 'FAKE NEWS.' Democratic lawmakers used the incident to highlight discussions around the Epstein Files, which have been a point of contention for the administration of President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to speak at the convention. Critics have accused Trump officials of mishandling the release of the Epstein Files, mandated under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Some documents released by the Justice Department have been criticized for being excessively redacted, while others reveal victim identities. Trump has faced scrutiny regarding his past relationship with Epstein, which he claims ended decades ago. The mock website previously featured a background photo of the American Airlines Center in Dallas and prompted users to enter their contact information for updates. However, it included a disclaimer stating it was not affiliated with the RNC or any official convention entity. The midterm convention is set to take place on September 9 and 10, marking the first of its kind for the Republican Party. The RNC anticipates it will be the largest convention since 2016, with Trump speaking on both nights as he aims to rally support ahead of the November midterm elections. RNC spokesperson Zach Kraft emphasized the significance of the event, stating it offers an opportunity for the public to hear from Trump directly, despite historical precedents of midterm conventions held by Democrats in the past.
