James Carville Comments on Trump's Upcoming Convention and Its Impact on Democrats

Carville stated that he is "thanking god" for the event, which is set to take place in Dallas.</p><p>Trump plans to speak on both nights of the two-day televised convention, aiming to energize his supporters despite not being on the ballot in November. However, many GOP lawmakers have confirmed they will not attend, citing various reasons as they attempt to distance themselves from a president facing declining popularity.</p><p>In a recent episode of his podcast, Carville referred to the convention as a "gift to Democrats," stating, "The mind can’t quite get around what exactly they’re up to, but thank God they’re doing it. We didn’t need this to win, but it certainly helps." With Trump's approval rating at approximately 36 percent, some Republicans have questioned the strategy of focusing on him during the midterms.</p><p>Karl Rove, a veteran strategist, criticized Trump's approach in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, arguing that focusing on a low-approval president could aid the opposition. Rove noted that Republican candidates in challenging races are urging Trump to utilize his substantial campaign funds to support their efforts.</p><p>Instead, Trump is reportedly charging attendees between $25,000 and $100,000 for convention access, and even first lady Melania Trump is expected to skip the event. Carville raised questions about Trump's intentions, asking, "Is Trump trying to lose? Most politicians kind of want to win. Does he really want to win? Does he care? I don’t know, but I mean it’s a question that’s got to be asked… Every piece of evidence you see, he’s actually trying to lose."</p><p>The Daily Beast has reached out to the White House for comment.</p>
