Maryland Gov. Wes Moore did not directly say during a Tuesday gubernatorial debate whether he would complete a second term if reelected, according to multiple reports.

Moore, a Democrat seeking reelection, was pressed for a yes-or-no answer about remaining in office for a full four-year term. He said, “Being the governor of Maryland has been the honor of a lifetime,” and added that he would not seek reelection if he were not committed to Maryland residents, the New York Post reported. The reports said he did not provide a direct commitment.

Moore is running against Republican Dan Cox, whom he defeated in the 2022 governor’s race, according to the Washington Examiner. The Examiner described Tuesday’s event as the candidates’ first and only debate of the 2026 campaign.
