The S&P 500 closed at a record high on Tuesday, rising 0.58 percent and surpassing its previous peak reached in August. The gain brought the benchmark index’s increase for the year to about 14 percent, according to the New York Times and Al Jazeera.
The Nasdaq Composite also reached a record, gaining 0.45 percent, Al Jazeera reported. Technology shares were among the stronger performers as investors continued to focus on artificial intelligence; Amazon rose 1.95 percent, while Microsoft gained 0.78 percent and Tesla added 0.51 percent. The advance came despite elevated oil prices and a sell-off in US government debt, the reports said.
