Three University of South Alabama students were arrested Friday and federally charged in connection with alleged social media threats against President Donald Trump before his rally at the Mobile campus, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to Fox News.

The students were each charged with threatening the president over posts made in the days before Trump’s visit, the Lagniappe Daily reported. The federal cases were unsealed Friday afternoon, hours before Trump was scheduled to appear at the university’s Mitchell Center.

According to FBI affidavits cited by the Lagniappe Daily, investigators found the posts during social media searches conducted before the visit. The affidavits said emergency disclosure requests and information from University of South Alabama police were used to identify the individuals.
