Lawyers for Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook told the White House that she could not attend a Nov. 5 hearing before a committee established by President Trump to investigate an accusation against her, citing official duties at financial and monetary policy meetings in Europe.

In a Tuesday letter, lawyer Abbe Lowell called the panel “demonstrably biased,” pointing to unspecified further allegations, an unclear timetable for evidence disclosures and no explanation for why material had not been provided earlier. The lawyers did not rule out Cook appearing before the committee. Lowell said the earliest she could participate would be after the Federal Reserve’s Dec. 8-9 policy meeting. The White House set up the committee last Friday, according to PBS NewsHour.
