UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he would not rule out Britain rejoining the European Union, as French President Emmanuel Macron and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the prospect in Madrid on Wednesday.

Macron said in English, “Welcome back.” He added that a British return would be good news if the country wanted it, but said the UK could not choose selected EU freedoms while remaining outside the bloc. Sanchez also embraced the idea, Deutsche Welle reported. The Daily Mail reported that Burnham raised other possible arrangements with Brussels, including joining the single market or customs union, and did not exclude another national vote despite describing one as divisive.
