Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat from Ohio, released a video on X, updating the public on her condition following a car accident in Toledo earlier this month. Kaptur stated that she and her congressional staff are in good health and expressed gratitude for the support she received during her recovery. She mentioned that she is currently undergoing physical rehabilitation and thanked the community for their well-wishes.
In the video, Kaptur, who is 80 years old and has served in the House since 1983, shared that she and her staffer, Keegan Zimmerman, were involved in a 'hit-skip' crash while traveling to a church service. The incident occurred near Detroit and Central avenues in Toledo. Kaptur noted that both she and Zimmerman are recovering well from their non-life-threatening injuries.
Kaptur also expressed appreciation for the first responders and medical personnel who assisted them after the accident. She highlighted the importance of the dedicated medical staff at Mercy St. Vincent's hospital. The House is currently on recess, allowing her time to recover before returning to Washington, D.C.
In the upcoming November elections, Kaptur is seeking another term and will face former Ohio State Rep. Derek Merrin in a rematch after a narrow victory in 2024. In her video, she shared a handmade get-well card from a child named Avery, which included a drawing of a dog named Charlie, and expressed her gratitude for the support she has received from the community.
