Kaptur, who has served in the House since 1983, was involved in a 'hit-skip' crash while traveling to a church service. She thanked first responders and medical personnel for their assistance and mentioned that she is currently undergoing physical rehabilitation. Kaptur is seeking re-election in November against former Ohio State Rep. Derek Merrin, having narrowly won their previous contest in 2024. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash but was reported to be active and alert afterward.
