New Mexico has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) over its alleged refusal to provide unredacted files related to the investigation of a ranch previously owned by Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit, filed on August 5, 2026, claims that the DOJ's actions obstruct New Mexico's ability to investigate crimes within its jurisdiction and violate the Administrative Procedure Act. New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez stated that the state has a duty to protect survivors and investigate crimes committed within its borders. The DOJ has responded, asserting that protecting victim privacy is a priority and that they are willing to assist New Mexico's investigation within legal constraints. The ranch, known as Zorro Ranch, was sold in 2023 and has been linked to various allegations of abuse involving Epstein.
