New Mexico Files Lawsuit Against DOJ Over Epstein Investigation

The state of New Mexico has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, claiming that the federal government obstructed the state's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's alleged sex crimes at a ranch in New Mexico. The lawsuit, submitted in federal court in Washington, D.C., alleges that the DOJ and Blanche hindered New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez's criminal investigation by refusing to share information and imposing formal request requirements. New Mexico is seeking judicial intervention to compel the federal government to provide relevant materials to aid in the investigation. The lawsuit coincides with the release of a report detailing preliminary findings from New Mexico's ongoing probe into Epstein and his ranch. Epstein died in federal custody in August 2019, and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking. The property in question was sold in 2023 to the family of Don Huffines, who plans to operate a Christian retreat there.
