President Donald Trump stated he has a potential replacement in mind for Senator Lindsey Graham, who recently passed away. During an appearance on NBC News's Meet the Press, Trump expressed respect for Graham's memory and refrained from naming the individual he believes would be suitable for the position.
Trump praised South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, who has the authority to appoint Graham's successor, highlighting McMaster's capabilities as a governor. Trump also made comments regarding Nikki Haley, his former U.N. ambassador and 2024 presidential candidate, suggesting that her appointment to the U.N. was a less challenging role.
In the same interview, Trump addressed recent U.S. military actions in Iran, stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and criticizing Iranian leadership. He also discussed his differences with Graham regarding foreign policy, particularly on the war in Ukraine.
Trump ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Graham, who died from a brief and sudden illness on Saturday evening, according to his office.
