Senator Susan Collins Responds to Vandalism at Maine Office

<p>Republican Senator Susan Collins stated she would not be "intimidated" following the vandalism of one of her constituent offices in Maine on Monday. Her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, condemned the "vandalism and intimidation" as "wrong" in a statement made Monday night.</p><p>The vandalism occurred at Collins' office in Biddeford, Maine, where the phrase "Trump Whore" was sprayed on the entry doors. The incident was confirmed by the senator's office, and a photo of the vandalized doors was shared on social media by Maine state Senator Matt Harrington, the assistant Republican leader. The Biddeford police have stated that they are investigating the matter.</p><p>Collins' Chief of Staff Katie Brown emphasized in a statement that "vandalism is unacceptable" and assured that the office remains open to serve the people of Maine.</p><p>Collins is currently running for re-election for a sixth six-year term in a competitive race against Jackson, the former Maine Senate president. This race is significant for Democrats as they aim to regain the Senate majority in the upcoming midterm elections.</p><p>Jackson remarked, "There’s no place for this in Maine. Vandalism and intimidation are wrong, full stop," adding that Collins and her staff should be able to perform their duties without fear of defacement.</p><p>Former Maine state Representative Austin Theriault, who is seeking to return to the state House, stated that there should be no hesitation in condemning such actions, regardless of political affiliation. He expressed confidence that Collins would have condemned similar actions if the roles were reversed.</p><p>Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker characterized the vandalism as indicative of the "radical left's aggression and inability to have civil discourse," and expressed hope for a swift prosecution of those responsible.</p><p>Collins' office is located near the site of a fatal shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in July, which had previously prompted protests against Collins' support for ICE funding.</p><p>As a moderate Republican, Collins has received bipartisan attention during her campaign. She recently marked her 10,000th consecutive Senate vote, but has also faced criticism from both sides of the political spectrum regarding her positions on various issues.</p>
