Senator Susan Collins Responds to Vandalism at Maine Office

<p>Republican Senator Susan Collins stated she would not be intimidated after one of her constituent offices in Biddeford, Maine was vandalized on Monday. Her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, condemned the vandalism as "wrong" in a statement released Monday night.</p><p>The incident involved the words "Trump Whore" being sprayed on the entry doors of the office. The vandalism was confirmed by Collins' office, and a photo of the defaced doors was shared on social media by Maine state Senator Matt Harrington. The Biddeford police have confirmed that an investigation is underway.</p><p>Collins' Chief of Staff Katie Brown stated, "Vandalism is unacceptable. Senator Collins and her staff will not be intimidated. Our Biddeford constituent service office remains open, and we will continue serving the people of Maine." </p><p>Collins is running for re-election for a sixth term in the Senate and is in a competitive race against Troy Jackson, the former Maine Senate president. This election is significant for Democrats as they aim to regain the Senate majority in the upcoming midterm elections.</p><p>Jackson commented, "There’s no place for this in Maine. Vandalism and intimidation are wrong, full stop. Senator Collins and her staff should be able to do their jobs without anyone defacing their office, and I condemn whoever did this." </p><p>Former Maine state Representative Austin Theriault, who is seeking to return to the state House, emphasized that such actions should be condemned regardless of political affiliation. He expressed confidence that Collins would also condemn similar actions if the roles were reversed.</p><p>Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker described the vandalism as an example of the radical left's aggression and called for a swift prosecution of the perpetrators. She stated, "Our political environment should not tolerate this volatile and disgusting behavior." </p><p>The vandalized office is located near the site of a fatal shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in July, which had previously prompted protests against Collins' support for ICE funding.</p><p>Collins, a moderate Republican, has received bipartisan attention during her campaign. She recently achieved her 10,000th consecutive Senate vote but has faced criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Collins has criticized President Trump's tariff policies toward Canada and voted against the confirmation of Attorney General Todd Blanche. Democrats have targeted her for her defense of her 2018 vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who later joined the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade.</p>
