United States President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 32 percent, the lowest of his political career, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. The poll, which closed on Sunday, indicated that 73 percent of Republicans approved of Trump’s job performance, down from 82 percent in a poll conducted a week earlier, when his overall approval was at 35 percent.
Trump returned to the White House in January 2025 with promises to address inflation and end foreign wars. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted shortly after his inauguration, he had a 47 percent approval rating.
The latest poll revealed that only 17 percent of respondents approved of his handling of the cost of living, which is viewed as a critical issue for the upcoming November 3 midterm elections, where Trump’s Republicans are defending narrow congressional majorities.
Dissatisfaction among Republicans has increased since Trump initiated military action in Iran in February, which has led to rising gasoline and diesel prices. For the first time, Republicans who disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living outnumber those who approve, with 51 percent disapproving and 44 percent approving.
On Wednesday, Trump stated that the United States is “hopefully toward the end” of its war with Iran, suggesting a potential for renewed diplomacy, although Tehran has not confirmed that direct negotiations with Washington have resumed.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and included 1,277 responses from US adults nationwide, with a margin of error of three percentage points.
