<p class="wp-block-paragraph">President Donald Trump’s warning to <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/white-house/4715978/trump-canada-bombardier-us-sales-ban/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">block a Canadian-based aircraft manufacturer</a> from selling in the United States as part of an <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/4716291/canadian-tariffs-billions-of-dollars-on-us-goods/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">escalating trade war</a> has raised concerns among Republicans in Kansas, where the company has its U.S. headquarters.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump made the threat against Bombardier aerospace company on Monday as part of a series of posts on Truth Social. The posts prompted Kansas GOP lawmakers to contact the White House to express their opposition to any ban against the business jet producer that employs <a href="https://www.bizjournals.com/wichita/news/2026/09/08/what-is-bombardier-trump-tariff-aftermarket-defens.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">over 1,400 U.S. workers</a> at its Wichita facility.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) stated on Tuesday that he had “already taken that concern inside the Oval Office” and expressed a desire for Bombardier to increase its production in Wichita.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I’m going to fight to keep Bombardier’s over 1,200 Kansas jobs,” Marshall posted on social media. “I’ve already taken that concern inside the Oval Office. America buys more than half of what Bombardier sells. If that’s the market, more of those planes should be built here.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) also reached out to the Trump administration on Monday following Trump’s remarks. He aimed to ensure that the president is aware of Bombardier’s contributions to Kansas and the importance of its presence in Wichita for many workers and the supply chain.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/foreign-policy/4703144/canada-reverses-some-us-tariffs-seafood-industry-backlash/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">imposed 50% tariffs</a> on a range of Canadian goods last month, prompting Prime Minister Mark Carney to warn that Canada would respond by matching them “dollar for dollar, rate for rate.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!” Trump posted on Truth Social on Labor Day. “Their products aren’t good enough! Over 50% of their revenue comes from the United States — They live off American Buyers, American Companies, American Airports, and American Service — All while Canada blocks our GREAT American Banks, and Companies, throughout the U.S.A.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump suggested prioritizing U.S.-based Gulfstream, a major competitor of Bombardier in the private jet market.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rep. Ron Estes (R-KS), whose district includes Wichita, also pushed back against Trump’s stance, stating that Bombardier’s “impact locally plays a critical role in our region’s dominance.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Today’s North American aerospace supply chain is deeply integrated, which is why I have long advocated for aircraft and aviation parts to be exempted from all tariffs,” Estes said. “I’m continuing to work with the Trump administration to ensure Kansas has a seat at the table for these important negotiations.”</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump’s trade conflict with Canada has fluctuated between tariffs and threats since he returned to the White House. This strategy has affected U.S. consumers and has also caused concern among border-state Republicans, potentially weakening their political positions, including those up for reelection, such as Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). This situation may now extend to races in central states, over 600 miles from the northern border. Marshall is facing a moderately competitive contest against Democratic nominee Adam Hamilton.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Bombardier supports 1,500 Kansas families, providing good-paying jobs that put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads during a cost-of-living crisis caused by Washington,” Hamilton said in a statement on X. “And now, the president is trying to take that away.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For its part, Bombardier detailed its U.S. operations in a statement responding to Trump.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Bombardier aircraft are built with American-made components such as engines, avionics and many more key systems provided by great American companies,” the company said.</p>
