Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy Announces Upcoming Fraud Crackdown

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced on Sunday that he will reveal details about a fraud crackdown initiative on Monday. In a post on X, Duffy stated, "TOMORROW: UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD CRACKDOWN," and tagged several officials and departments, including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. This suggests a coordinated effort among multiple departments to address fraud. Duffy did not provide specifics about the announcement, such as the type of fraud being targeted or whether any arrests have been made. This announcement aligns with the administration's ongoing efforts to combat fraud, which includes the establishment of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in March to oversee initiatives related to federal benefit programs. The DOJ has also formed a National Fraud Enforcement Division to investigate the misuse of taxpayer dollars. Recently, Duffy's Department of Transportation has collaborated with DHS to address alleged fraud and safety violations in the commercial trucking sector, focusing on issues such as improperly issued commercial driver’s licenses and unvetted foreign drivers. In July, the agencies launched a joint investigation into approximately 75 commercial driving schools suspected of fraud, including falsifying training records and improperly certifying drivers. Additionally, they have conducted roadside operations targeting unqualified foreign commercial drivers.
