Milo Yiannopoulos Detained by ICE for Overstaying Visa

Milo Yiannopoulos, a British political commentator, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for allegedly overstaying his visa. An ICE official confirmed to Al Jazeera that Yiannopoulos was taken into custody at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Thursday. He reportedly entered the U.S. through New York City on May 14, 2019, and was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22 after failing to attend his immigration hearing. The spokesperson stated that he will remain in ICE custody pending removal. The Department of Homeland Security shared a photo on social media that appeared to be a mugshot of Yiannopoulos, warning that individuals who overstay their visas may be arrested and deported without the chance to return. Online records do not specify the ICE facility holding Yiannopoulos, directing family members and legal representatives to contact the ICE field office in Alexandria, Louisiana, for more information. Reports indicate that Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans for a concert by the musician Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. TMZ first reported on Yiannopoulos's detainment. Laura Loomer, a Trump ally, claimed responsibility for reporting Yiannopoulos to ICE, stating that he incited violence against Trump and worked with former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Loomer has had a contentious relationship with Yiannopoulos, previously disclosing personal details about him. Yiannopoulos, known for his controversial online presence, was permanently banned from Twitter in July 2016 but had his account reinstated under Elon Musk's ownership. He has since made inflammatory posts and founded a talent management company in Los Angeles called Tarantula, which claims to offer connections and expertise to various public figures.
