Milo Yiannopoulos, a British political commentator, has been deported from the United States back to the UK following his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this week. A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informed NBC News on Saturday that Yiannopoulos was removed from the country one day after his arrest at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Friday.
Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally in 2019, but DHS stated that he overstayed his visa. He reportedly did not attend an immigration hearing regarding his status in July, leading an immigration judge to issue a deportation order on July 22. Following his arrest, DHS remarked that Yiannopoulos “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”
DHS also encouraged individuals in the U.S. illegally to utilize the CBP Home App for departure, offering $3,000 and a free flight for self-deportation. The department emphasized that those who do not take this opportunity will face arrest and deportation without the possibility of returning. Yiannopoulos, who previously worked for Breitbart News, left the organization in February 2017. While DHS did not specify if Yiannopoulos would be allowed to return to the U.S., it reiterated that illegal migrants who do not self-deport will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.
