Trump States Lack of Concern Over Potential Russian Attack on NATO

<p>President Trump stated in a phone interview with Axios on Thursday that he is not worried about a potential Russian attack on NATO countries.</p><p><strong>Context:</strong> European leaders have expressed significant concern that Moscow may test NATO's resolve and Trump's commitment to Article 5, the alliance's collective-defense clause, through limited attacks or military provocations.</p><hr /><ul><li>CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/08/25/cia-director-ratcliffe-visits-moscow" target="_blank">covert trip to Moscow</a> on Tuesday to meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Naryshkin.</li><li>Several media outlets <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/cia-chiefs-surprise-moscow-trip-was-to-warn-russia-not-to-attack-nato-c2d997f3" target="_blank">reported</a> that the visit aimed to warn Moscow against attacking a NATO country.</li><li>However, Trump disputed these reports, stating that Ratcliffe delivered no such warning.</li></ul><p><strong>Trump's Comments:</strong> "I am not concerned ... at all. There is no problem," Trump said when asked about the possibility of a Russian provocation against NATO countries.</p><ul><li>He referred to Ratcliffe's trip as "standard business" and expressed confusion over media interpretations of it.</li><li>Trump noted, "Ratcliffe sees his Russian counterpart once every six months or once every year. They have a very good relationship.
