Iowa Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand expresses desire for new leadership, declines support from Biden and Harris

<p>Iowa Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand stated that he would not want former President Joe Biden or former Vice President Kamala Harris to campaign for him. In an interview with Politico's Jonathan Martin, Sand responded negatively when asked if he would want Biden's support, saying, "No. Can he even do that right now? I'm sorry."</p><p>When asked about Harris, Sand replied, "No thanks. Let's move on. We need some new leadership." Martin further inquired if Sand believed Harris should run in 2028, to which he responded, "Nope." In April, Harris indicated that she was considering a run in 2028, stating, "I might" and noted that she was "thinking about it."</p><p>Sand, who currently serves as the Iowa auditor of state, is running against Republican Zach Lahn, who is backed by Trump, in the state's 2026 gubernatorial race. Recently, Trump endorsed Lahn, stating in a Truth Social post, "It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, Zach Lahn, a tremendous Candidate running to be the next Governor of the Wonderful State of Iowa, a place I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024!" Current Governor Kim Reynolds, a Republican, announced last year that she would not seek re-election.</p>
