The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rejected claims made by Florida Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Angie Nixon, who accused Republicans of attempting to harm Black Americans and characterized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a 'weaponized paramilitary force.' Nixon made these comments during an interview on the 'QNA: Questions Need Answers' podcast prior to winning the Democratic Senate primary in Florida. She expressed skepticism about bipartisan cooperation, stating, 'They’re literally trying to kill us.'
Nixon cited what she described as state-sanctioned violence in Black communities and criticized ICE's actions, referencing a September 2025 operation in Chicago that resulted in several detentions. DHS responded by denying allegations of racial profiling and asserting that enforcement actions are based on immigration status, not race. A DHS spokesperson highlighted a significant increase in violence against law enforcement personnel, including a 1,300% rise in assaults and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
Republican National Committee spokeswoman Emma Hall commented that Nixon's remarks would aid Republican candidates. Nixon, who defeated Alexander Vindman in the primary, is set to face Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in the upcoming election.
