Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton debated Wednesday in a CNN-hosted, hourlong California governor’s race matchup, clashing as they seek to replace Gavin Newsom. The debate came days before voters were due to begin receiving ballots, according to the Guardian.
The candidates argued over immigration and the economy; the Guardian also cited taxes and artificial-intelligence regulation, while The Hill listed healthcare. Hilton, a former Fox News host, accused Becerra of taking voters for granted, according to the Guardian. The Hill described the event as the first and only scheduled debate. Becerra is the Democratic candidate and previously served as health and human services secretary during the Biden administration, according to the New York Times.
