The White House barred Politico from traveling on Air Force One on Monday, preventing the outlet from carrying out its assigned role in the press pool during President Donald Trump’s trip to Grand Island, Nebraska.
Politico had been selected for the out-of-town print pool, whose reporters travel with the president and share coverage with other news organizations. Trump was scheduled to attend a rally in Grand Island with Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts. A Politico spokesperson confirmed the outlet’s exclusion to MS NOW and CNN.
The action came as a federal judge considers a lawsuit involving White House press access. CNN reported that Trump announced on Sept. 18 that Politico, CNN and MS NOW were barred from the White House; the outlets sued Sept. 21, alleging violations of the First and Fifth Amendments. The Washington Examiner also reported that the judge is weighing the dispute.
