Ukrainian officials said Wednesday that their access to a SpaceX-developed internet and satellite service had been restricted, affecting wartime operations in Ukraine. The Hill described the service as crucial to Ukraine’s efforts, while Ukrainian officials told The New York Times they had complained about the limits.
Hacker News reported that SpaceX imposed a speed restriction on StarShield terminals used by Ukraine, with connections reportedly failing when platforms traveled at about 160 kilometers per hour. It said later reports put the threshold at 60 to 70 kilometers per hour for some operators, a change that could affect reconnaissance and tactical drones as well as faster unmanned systems. The report said the issue involved terminals in motion rather than a broad shutdown of service.
