The United States removed two members of Iran’s delegation to the United Nations after they remained in New York following the UN General Assembly, U.S. officials said. Axios reported the removals occurred Saturday; the Washington Examiner said they were sent out Friday night and Saturday morning.
The diplomats had been asked days earlier to leave, according to both reports. A U.S. official said the two had stayed in New York after the General Assembly ended and had been removed from the country. The official said Secretary of State Marco Rubio was enforcing the departure request. Axios described the action as occurring as diplomatic efforts to end the war faltered and the possibility of renewed fighting increased.
