President Trump said Wednesday that people who leak government information should be shot during a campaign rally in Arizona, referring to what he described as disclosures about U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Trump said, “Somebody leaked, some sleazebag. They ought to go to jail and be shot. For the rest of their life, they should be in jail.” He said information about the departure and arrival times for the operation had appeared in The New York Times and CNN. The New York Post described the operation as Operation Midnight Hammer, while the Washington Examiner said the remarks concerned government officials who provide information to the media.
The Washington Examiner said the rally was held along the Arizona-Nevada border and supported Rep. Andy Biggs and other Republican candidates. It described the event as the second stop of Trump’s campaign swing through western states.
