Residents of Statesboro Place in Ashburn, Virginia, now live beside data-center facilities operated by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft after construction brought explosions, heavy machinery and dust to the area, according to Fox News Digital.
The buildings, beyond a row of trees from the cul-de-sac in Loudoun County, are windowless and tall, Fox reported. Residents said construction noise was later replaced by a continuing mechanical hum. One resident told Fox News Digital, “It's like 150 feet away and just constant noise.” The report said trees had been planted near the site.
The facilities are part of infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence, Fox reported. A New York Times report said local officials seldom assess the combined regional effects of multiple data-center projects and noted construction of a Texas facility near homes.
