The Norte Fire spread rapidly in Orange County on Friday, prompting evacuation orders as it threatened structures, according to the Orange County Fire Authority and the New York Post. The fire began around 11:30 a.m. near Portico Del Norte and reached at least 50 acres within minutes, the Post reported.
The blaze was driven by warm winds and unusually high temperatures, Al Jazeera reported. Al Jazeera said the fire engulfed homes, while the Post reported that structures were threatened. Elsewhere in Southern California, the Guardian reported that the Henderson Fire burned more than 1,000 acres at Camp Pendleton near San Diego, where evacuations were issued and part of Interstate 5 was briefly closed.
