The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its national measles tally to report a second death in 2026, with 3,659 confirmed cases across 47 states as of Sept. 24.

The CDC’s update did not identify the states where the deaths occurred. Its count differs from Pennsylvania’s official reporting, which listed more than 900 cases in its outbreak and four measles-associated deaths.

The federal database had not included Pennsylvania’s four reported deaths, according to The Hill. The CDC announced the second national death Tuesday, the Guardian reported.
