New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew criticism on social media after using an Italian Heritage Month message on X to praise former East Harlem congressman Vito Marcantonio and his vision of government serving working people, Fox News reported.
Fox News said Queens Councilwoman Vickie Paladino was among those criticizing the post. Marcantonio served seven terms in Congress, initially as a Republican and later with the American Labor Party, according to the outlet. It reported that his opposition to U.S. involvement in the Korean War and legal work for the Communist Party drew FBI attention. Mamdani’s post called for continuing to pursue Marcantonio’s vision.
