Nine people, including the suspected shooter, died after a shooting at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday, according to city and state officials. The suspected shooter was found dead after police responded to the scene, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat.
Police Chief Rick Lorah said eight victims were killed and that seven were related to the 45-year-old shooter, whose identity had not been released; the eighth was a family friend. The dead included a 1-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a pregnant woman, according to police reports cited by Deutsche Welle. Local media reports cited by Al Jazeera and the New York Post said officers were called at about 5 p.m. and encountered a standoff after the shooter barricaded himself inside.
