Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas postponed legislative and presidential elections to Sept. 11, 2027, according to a decree issued Friday. The legislative vote had been scheduled for Nov. 28, while the presidential election was planned for early next year.
Abbas said Israeli measures had impeded free, fair and inclusive elections, citing settler violence, military attacks and movement restrictions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Deutsche Welle reported. The postponed votes would be the first Palestinian elections in more than 20 years. Abbas had previously committed to holding legislative elections in November 2026.
