President Donald Trump said Friday that Katie Zacharia, a former Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman and communications adviser to Truth Social, will become White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt.
Trump announced the selection on Truth Social, calling Zacharia a “loyal and brilliant supporter” and a “devoted fan” of his movement. He also told reporters that the White House had hired a new press secretary and said he expected her to be terrific. Reports described Zacharia as a conservative commentator and frequent Fox News and Newsmax guest. Her age was reported as 42 by the Daily Mail and Deutsche Welle, while the Washington Examiner reported she is 41.
Zacharia previously worked at DHS earlier this year, with the Daily Mail reporting that she left after six weeks in March. The Guardian said Leavitt left the position at the end of August after giving birth to her second child.
