Justice Samuel Alito said he was “not pleased” with some of President Donald Trump’s and his administration’s comments about the Supreme Court, in an Associated Press interview published Tuesday as Alito promoted his first book, “So Ordered: An Originalist’s View of The Constitution, The Court, and Our Country.”
Alito said Americans may criticize the court, including harshly when criticism is warranted, but distinguished such criticism from rhetoric. The book, due for release Tuesday, collects and adapts 19 speeches addressing abortion, originalism, the judiciary and other subjects, according to The Hill. ABC News reported that it includes remarks Alito made in 2018 describing the 2015 same-sex marriage ruling as a key moment in what he viewed as a turn against religious liberty. Seven of the speeches were delivered to Catholic groups, ABC said.
