A drone struck Kyiv’s Pivnichnyi, or Northern, Bridge on Sunday as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited the Ukrainian capital, according to the BBC and the New York Post. Video verified by the BBC showed the drone hitting the bridge and exploding while cars were moving across it. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people were injured, the New York Post reported.
The BBC said the bridge had been hit for a second consecutive day and that major Kyiv bridges had faced attacks for four days. Merz arrived with Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and German business representatives, Deutsche Welle reported. He was expected to announce further German support, including military aid and energy-sector repair funding, according to German media cited by DW.
Separately, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was ready for U.S.-backed technical talks with Russia by the end of October, with the United Arab Emirates among possible venues, Al Jazeera reported.
