Georgia’s State Election Board asked the Justice Department on Wednesday to investigate the state’s voting systems and add security measures before the November midterm election, according to letters obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Executive Director James Mills wrote to Attorney General Todd Blanche and other federal officials seeking an investigation and intervention concerning ballot secrecy, election-record preservation, and the sharing of voter-registration and motor-vehicle data with outside groups, ms.now reported. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Mills also requested a six-month deadline to stop using QR codes on ballots to tally votes; Georgia’s in-person system uses scanners that read those codes.
The request would require changes to the statewide voting process, the newspaper reported. Mills also asked officials to hold Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger accountable if information is withheld or a review is blocked, according to ms.now.
