New York Attorney General Letitia James said Friday that her office would conduct a fair investigation into seven defendants accused of sexually assaulting an unnamed woman at a Cornell University fraternity party. The investigation followed a recent lawsuit against Cornell, the Chi Phi fraternity and other defendants, according to Fox News.
The allegations have drawn attention to Cornell’s handling of campus sexual assault as trustees, alumni and others gather for meetings and homecoming, The New York Times reported. Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff has said the university plans additional student education on sexual violence, The Hill reported, while experts cited by the outlet questioned the effectiveness of prevention and education programs nationally. James said the inquiry would be guided by facts and evidence.
