Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff said Saturday the school will examine the role of fraternities and sororities and provide greater transparency after a student's allegations that she was drugged and raped at a fraternity house in 2024.
The woman, identified in reports as Jane Doe, filed a civil lawsuit last month against Cornell, Chi Phi and seven former fraternity members. She alleges the men gang-raped her on Oct. 19, 2024. Kotlikoff called the allegations deeply disturbing and said questions had been raised about the investigations that followed. Her lawyer has said he believes more than seven men may have participated.
New York lawmakers will review sexual-assault laws, including a voluntary-intoxication rule, Al Jazeera reported. An attorney for one accused former fraternity member has asked Attorney General Letitia James to step aside from an investigation, citing her earlier public statements supporting the accuser.
