The Conference Board said Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence Index fell to 81.9 in September, its lowest reading since April 2014. The index dropped 6.7 points from 88.6 in August, according to the board.
Respondents’ assessment of current conditions declined 7.9 points to 109.3, while their short-term outlook fell 5.9 points to 63.6, PBS reported. The September reading was also below the index’s lowest level during the pandemic, according to PBS.
