Christiane Amanpour said Monday that she will leave CNN in June 2027, ending a 43-year career at the network. CNN CEO Mark Thompson said her CNN International program, “Amanpour,” will be reduced to weekly broadcasts early in 2027 and will end in May before her departure at the end of June.
Amanpour told colleagues that, after months of consideration, she had decided to separate from CNN. Thompson said he and Amanpour had discussed the decision for months and that he had accepted it was the right time for her personally and professionally.
Her departure comes as CNN enters a period of ownership change. Deutsche Welle linked the announcement to Paramount Skydance’s merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, while PBS described an $81 billion merger that would place CNN and CBS under one company.
