A bipartisan group of seven lawmakers on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee criticized President Trump’s recent agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which they said would lift sanctions and allow Russian oil to enter the global economy.
The Hill reported that the lawmakers said Congress banned Russian energy imports in 2022 to prevent U.S. money from financing Putin. The New York Times reported that former Representative Mike Rogers of Michigan and Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska also objected to Trump’s announcement involving diesel fuel imports from Russia.
The reports did not provide further details on the agreement or say what action the lawmakers planned next.
