Licensed metal detectorist Oliver Riedl found 934 Roman silver coins in a field near Wesseling, south of Cologne, German reports said. The hoard, discovered in 2025 and announced recently by officials, dates to the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian about 2,000 years ago.

Riedl alerted authorities after his detector continued signaling following the discovery of an initial coin, according to Breitbart. The coins were later cleaned and displayed at the LVR State Museum in Bonn. Officials called the find Germany's largest coin hoard from Hadrian's reign, Fox News reported. An expert told Fox News the cache may have represented someone's life savings.
