A 71-year-old fisherman, identified as Steven Hamilton, was killed Friday after an alligator attacked him along the shore of Lake Apopka in Winter Garden, Florida, authorities said. The animal was nearly 12 feet long, according to police reports cited by Fox News and the Guardian.

Hamilton was fishing around 5 p.m. when the alligator attacked and pulled him into the water, the reports said. Winter Garden Fire Chief Jose Gainza told FOX 35 that rescuers could not reach him because other alligators were in the water. The Guardian reported that the alligator was later killed. Police said it was Florida's second fatal alligator attack this year.
